Synopsis
An idealistic young soldier tries to obtain justice in a
society fueled by tell-all memoirs, social climbing, stock
market manipulation and political posturing.  Will he be
able to win a pension for a deserving war widow without
sacrificing his integrity?

This delightfully cynically comedy was originally penned in
the 1840's by French master Eugene Scribe.

5 acts, 2 and a half hours.

Cast:  2 women, 5 men, 2 "extras."

Characters:
Count Marignan:  a scholar and a statesman.
Cesar Desgaudets:  a businessman.
Corinne Desgaudets:  his daughter, a writer and
intellectual.
Albert D'Angremont: a captain in the French army.
Maxence de la Roche-Bernard:  a nobleman.
Antonia de la Roche-Bernard:  his sister and ward.
Bouvard:  a publisher and bookseller.

Assorted businessmen, servants and persons of nobility.  
With doubling, these can be played by as few as two actors.
